It is with great pride that I welcome you to the website for the La Raza Lawyers of Santa Clara County Charitable Foundation.  We have come a long way since the late Andrew Gonzalez started our mission in the early 1990’s.  Since that time, we have provided tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships directly to Bay Area law students committed to representing and serving the Latino community.

In addition, our Foundation, which formally gained non-profit 501(c)(3) status in 2006, has recently funded a California Supreme Court internship for Bay Area first year law students who are selected by the Foundation to intern for Justice Carlos Moreno for a summer.  Winners of this award are eligible to receive up to $5,000 in Foundation funds to help defer living expenses while volunteering for Justice Moreno’s chambers.  Deadlines and details on how to apply for this coming summer can be found under our “Scholarship” link.

And finally, don’t forget our Twelfth Annual Scholarship Dinner, this year scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Marriott Hotel in downtown San Jose.  Hailed by many as the “funnest” bar-related dinner in the Bay Area, this year’s event will honor the historic appointment of Justice Sonia Sotomayor by recognizing Latina legal trailblazers of Silicon Valley.   In addition, former Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo and current candidate for California Attorney General will be our guest speaker.  We will also, of course, be awarding up to three scholarships to Bay Area law students.  Please visit our “Scholarship” link to apply or our “Events” link for more information on attending the dinner.  Your attendance at and/or contribution to the Dinner will help ensure the continued support of the Latino legal community.

As you can see, this is an exciting time for the Foundation as we continue to support those who serve the Latino community as envisioned by our inspirational leader, Andrew Gonzalez.   If you would like to be part of this mission, we encourage you to join our affiliated organization, the La Raza Lawyers of Santa Clara County (http://www.larazalawyers-santaclara.com).  Your participation in La Raza Lawyers at a membership or even a leadership position would greatly advance the mission or our Foundation.

Gracias y Buena Suerte,
